Austin American-Statesman – Feb. 13, 2017
An employee of a South Austin Wal-Mart was arrested for stealing $16,663 from the store, according to an arrest affidavit.
Jasmine Alexander, 19, is accused of loading Visa gift cards with money at the register she was working, according to the affidavit. Alexander worked at the Wal-Mart at 9300 South I-35, close to Slaughter Lane.
Police say Alexander loaded multiple gift cards with amounts ranging from $1,009 to $2,524 at a time. According to the affidavit, Alexander performed these transactions multiple times during August, September and October.
A loss prevention officer at that Wal-Mart location reported the theft to Austin police after watching security camera footage showing Alexander loading the Visa gift cards and printing receipts with evidence of the transactions.
While being interviewed by the loss prevention officer, Alexander admitted to loading and reloading unauthorized Visa gift cards for one person she knew and three people she did not know, the affidavit said.
Alexander was taken to Travis County Jail with bail set at $10,000. She was no longer in jail Monday afternoon.
