Starting Friday, a portion of FM 969 — the East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard bridge over U.S. 183 — will be reduced to one lane in each direction between Tannehill Lane and Regency Drive.
Drivers passing through this interchange may experience increased travel delays.
The lane reduction will last for about the next six months, so that a wider bridge at U.S. 183 can be constructed, according to the Central Texas Regional Mobility Authority.
This is part of the 183 South Project, which began in April 2016 and is expected to be complete in 2019.
The $743 million project plans to add a new tolled expressway, improve the non-tolled U.S. 183, add a high-tech traffic monitoring system, add miles of bicycle lanes and sidewalks and upgrade the visual appearance.
Work on the MLK Boulevard bridge is expected to be completed in late 2017.
