A man stole two suitcases from the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport Wednesday that were estimated to be worth up to $29,000, police say.

According to the affidavit, 28-year-old Becerra Christopher Cesar left the ABIA baggage terminal with two bags that were not his and left the airport on a Capitol Metro bus.

Police say the two suitcases contained female clothes, jewelry, makeup and other items that were valued to be between $2,500 and $29,000. The document says the owners of the luggage had “emotional bonds” to certain pieces of jewelry that were in the suitcases, which were valued to be thousands of dollars.

Cesar was detained by police at the Capitol Metro North Transfer Center and arrested for theft.

A background check by police showed Cesar had two prior convictions from 2016 for theft.

Cesar was booked in Travis County Jail Wednesday afternoon. His bail was set at $15,000.
