Austin police are seeking the driver of a vehicle involved in ahit-and-run with a pedicab in downtown Austin late Wednesday.
Around 10:25 p.m. a pedicab was struck from behind and crashed on South Congress Avenue near Barton Springs.
The passenger was taken to the hospital last night, but police say the person is expected to make a full recovery. The pedicab operator was unhurt.
Police said the car that left the scene after rear-ending the pedicab is a dark-colored BMW, possibly a 5 series, a 2011 model or newer, with front-end damage from the incident.
Authorities have not been able to identify the driver of the vehicle. They are unsure if the driver was male or female, and witnesses were unable to get a license plate number, police said.
Police said pedicabs have just as much of a right to the road as cars do.
Hit-and-run incidents involving pedicabs are not common, police said, adding that the only way the cases can be solved is with input from citizens.
